about

There are definitely similar themes on this album to the ones suggested on "Here at the End": weariness, spiritual uncertainty, and possibly, hope. That's what living in the second half of the 2010's will do to you.

There is a general arc to the pieces here: it's a progression from darkness in the first few tracks to greater light toward the end (even though the last track suggests there are clouds still gathering on the periphery). It seemed to me that this was a good summation of our collective experience of the last couple of years, in relation to both the pandemic and our overall socio-political situation. Are we out of this? Are things getting better, or is there just a temporary veil over the menace?

And what of the implied religious undercurrent? I'm an atheist, so you be the judge. I've spoken a bit, though, about this subtext in the background to the piece, "Look Skyward, End Timers," in its stand-alone page elsewhere here on Bandcamp.

Some of these pieces are almost as old as the recordings on the previous album, but most are newer. There's a bit of Roland guitar synth here - that frustrating, unwieldy interface. It can produce some sublime effects, but we'll have to see if I return to this method of sound production going forward.

Thanks as always to Jessica and Ben for their patience, and to Bruce Templeton for his fine job of mastering.
